Slepyshev will be sidelined for training camp -- and could miss Opening Night against Calgary -- due to an ankle injury suffered during offseason training, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports.

Slepyshev could get some ice time on the top line with Connor McDavid, but in general, he'll likely find himself firmly cemented in a second-line role behind Ryan Strome. How the injury affects the Russian's spot on the depth chart remains to be seen, but it's unlikely that he would drop from the top six. In the meantime, Jesse Puljujarvi figures to slide up and fill the gap.
