The Oilers loaned Russell to their taxi squad Thursday.
Russell has been a healthy scratch for all but one of the Islanders' first eight games of the campaign, so this news doesn't come as a surprise. He'll likely continue to bounce between the taxi squad and the active roster throughout the campaign.
