Heponiemi was called up from AHL Charlotte on Saturday, David Dwork of Local 10 Miami reports.
Heponiemi had two points in nine NHL contests last season but has yet to make his Panthers debut in 2021-22. He's been reasonably productive with the Checkers, recording 11 points in 17 games, but so far has yet to flash the type of elite talent that allowed him to post 118 points in 57 games with WHL Swift Current in 2017-18. It's unclear if Heponiemi will draw into the lineup during this call-up.
