Malkin (knee) was on the ice Monday without gear for the first time since offseason knee surgery, Mike DeFabo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

While it's certainly a step in the right direction, Malkin's spin on the ice doesn't change his timeline of an early-to-mid December return to action. Until Malkin and Sidney Crosby (wrist) are cleared to play, Jeff Carter and Evan Rodrigues will fill the top-six center positions. If Malkin can return to being a point-per-game player once back in action, he could still provide decent fantasy value this year.
