The Penguins sent Porter to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
The veteran cleared waivers and will start the season with the Baby Pens. Porter collected three assists in 41 games for Pittsburgh in 2015-16 before undergoing season-ending surgery.
