Bjugstad's surgery was to repair a herniated disc, the team announced Wednesday.

While the timeline for Bjugstad's recovery from this injury is eight weeks, general manager Jim Rutherford told reporters Tuesday that the towering center wouldn't be available for the postseason. It's the second surgery for Bjugstad this season, as he previously underwent core-muscle surgery in November. The fact that this is the second back surgery in Bjugstad's career will no doubt increase speculation that the Penguins will try to buy out his contract once he's medically cleared.
