Washington blitzed the Predators out of the gate, taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Saros held the fort from there, allowing his team to tie the score, but he gave up a crucial tally to Evgeny Kuznetsov in the third while Nashville was on the power play. The Capitals added an empty-netter late after Saros was pulled for an extra attacker. The holiday break came at an unfortunate time for Saros, as he had a five-game winning streak going when the Predators paused play Dec. 17.
