Cholowski was returned to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
Cholowski has only cracked the Red Wings' lineup on two occasions this season, going scoreless while posting a minus-1 rating over that span. He has, however, picked up 10 points through 13 AHL appearances in 2020-21.
