Brodin was protected by the Wild ahead of the expansion draft, the Star Tribune reports.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher found himself in the unenviable position of having to decide whether to expose Brodin or another burgeoning defenseman in Matt Dumba. Comparing the two head-to-head, it was Dumba with the better numbers in every major category except for blocked shots -- Brodin had 89 of those compared to 71 for Dumba, but not everything should be based off of one season, and it's easy to forget that Brodin finished fourth in the Calder Trophy race in 2013. The Swede has four years left on his contract, which is valued at $4.16 million annually.
