  • Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Ready to rock Tuesday
    By RotoWire Staff

Niskanen (upper body) will return to Washington's lineup for Tuesday's road game against the Predators, Tarik El-Bashir of NBC Sports Washington reports. Niskanen has missed the Capitals' last 13 games due to an upper-body injury, so he'll likely be eased back into action Tuesday. Nonetheless, the American blueliner racked up 39 points (five goals, 34 assists) in 78 games last campaign, so he's worth a look in most fantasy formats if he's not already owned by another team in your league.

  • Niskanen (upper body) has been cleared for some contact and will travel with the team for Tuesday's contest in Nashville, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports. The veteran blueliner hasn't played since suffering the injury Oct. 13, missing each of the last 12 games. Expect Niskanen to get in a few practices ahead of Tuesday's game and hopefully able to take full contact in that time. If not, Niskanen could be ready by Thursday's matchup in Colorado.

  • Niskanen (upper body) said he's "feeling good," but doesn't know if he'll be an option for Sunday's home game against the Oilers, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. While the 30-year-old blueliner appears to be making progress, he's not likely to have a firm timetable for his return until he proves that he can withstand full contact and show up for multiple practices. If he doesn't return Sunday, then perhaps Tuesday's road game against the Predators would be in play.

  • Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Lands on long-term IR
    By RotoWire Staff

Niskanen (upper body) was placed on long-term injured reserve Saturday and he is considered week-to-week. Niskanen exited Friday's contest due to the upper-body injury and it appears the issue will cost him an extended period of time. It's a big blow early in the season along Washington's blue line. The team recalled Madison Bowey from AHL Hershey to replace him on the roster, but it will be difficult to replace Niskanen's experience. It wouldn't be surprising to see Dmitry Orlov's role expand and fantasy value rise with Niskanen out of action for the foreseeable future.

  • Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Done for night
    By RotoWire Staff

Niskanen will not return to Friday's game against the Devils due to an upper-body injury. With Niskanen done for the night, the Capitals will likely have to rely on either Christian Djoos or Aaron Ness to provide the team with more ice time the rest of the way. His availability for Saturday's contest will also likely be in jeopardy, but the team should update his status before then.
