  • Johnson scored a goal and added a helper in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Wild. Johnson began a surge of three goals in 2:28 for the Penguins in the second period with his first tally of the year. He also assisted on Joseph Blandisi's goal to end the three-goal outburst. • Penguins' Adam Johnson: Rises to big club
    By RotoWire Staff

Johnson was recalled by the Penguins on Wednesday. The Penguins' forwards have been torched by injuries, so Johnson is being called up with the intent of him playing Thursday versus the Ducks. Johnson is expected to stick in the bottom six, but he had modest success in that role with two assists in six games last year. Expect him to stick around as long as Alex Galchenyuk (lower body) is out.

  • Coach Mike Sullivan said Johnson (lower body) was cleared to play, but was assigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday, Seth Rorabaugh of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Johnson was originally injured during training camp, and was trending toward a placement on non-roster injured reserve. As evidenced by this news, Johnson is all-clear, but won't start the season with the big club. Following his 43 point output last season in 67 AHL games, it could be only a matter of time before Johnson gets a call-up during the early season.
