Del Zotto notched an assist versus Detroit on the way to a 5-2 win Thursday. Del Zotto is now riding a three-game point streak and seems to be acclimating well to his new digs in St. Louis. In 23 games with Vancouver, the defenseman was limited to four points, but he needs just one more to match that mark with the Blues since his trade-deadline move.
The Ducks traded Del Zotto to the Blues on Monday for a sixth-round draft pick, Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register reports. Del Zotto was a serviceable fantasy option in the first five years of his career with the Rangers; he even notched 37 points as a rookie in 2019-10 and cracked double digits in power play goals (11) and assists (18) in his introductory campaign. However, injuries have hindered Del Zotto in recent years, and he's only compiled 40 points in 309 games between subsequent stops in Philadelphia, Vancouver, Nashville and Anaheim. Don't expect him to suddenly rediscover his offensive magic in The Loo, but Del Zotto should at least be able to handle bottom-pairing minutes at the top level until Carl Gunnarsson (lower body) returns from injury.
Del Zotto has appeared in seven games for the Ducks, recording 12 hits and 12 blocks in that span. Del Zotto has only five points in 29 games split between the Ducks and Canucks, who met Wednesday in a 1-0 result favoring the Ducks. For the season, he has 101 hits and 43 blocks, which may provide a little value in deeper formats, but point production is virtually non-existent for Del Zotto anymore.
The Canucks dished Del Zotto to the Ducks on Wednesday for Luke Schenn and a seventh-round pick, John Shannon of Sportsnet reports. Del Zotto had rarely seen the ice with Vancouver since early December, drawing in just once after Dec. 4 versus the Wild. Rather than just sit on him, the Canucks will add a draft pick in addition to getting Schenn -- who has plenty of NHL experience himself. It seems unlikely that Del Zotto will be available in time for Thursday's game against the Wild, especially if he has any visa issues.
Del Zotto was scratched during Saturday's loss to Toronto. Del Zotto returned to the lineup for Thursday's affair with Montreal, but he didn't impress the coaching staff enough to warrant another game. He was scratched for the 13 games prior to Thursday, and could be waiting another long stretch before seeing NHL action.
