Gunnarsson underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL on Tuesday; he'll be reexamined in six months. Gunnarsson could miss training camp this fall considering his lengthy timetable. After all, there's no gurantee that he'd be ready to go upon the next evaluation. The Swede blocked 102 shots to supplement nine points and a plus-15 rating through 63 games this season.
Gunnarsson sustained a torn ACL in Friday night's win over the Canucks, Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest reports, adding that the defenseman will miss the rest of the season. Gunnarsson's injury stems from his absorbing a hard check into the boards by forward Bo Horvat. While it's been a long while since he'd put up decent offensive totals, the Swede added own-zone utility for the Blues as a shot-blocking talent who was most recently positioned on the top pair with Alex Pietrangelo. The 31-year-old's season comes to an end having compiled 15 points and 102 blocked shots through 63 games.
Gunnarsson (lower body) won't return to Friday's game against the Canucks. Gunnarsson was checked hard into the boards by Bo Horvat, and the Blues will run five defensemen the rest of the contest. The 31-year-old blueliner has one assist, 14 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating in the last seven games, and he'll need to recover quickly in order to play Saturday against the Blue Jackets.
Gunnarsson (illness) was back on the ice with his teammates for Tuesday's practice session, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports. Gunnarsson won't miss any game time after sitting out practice Monday. The blueliner's absence would stretch a defense that is already without Joel Edmundson (arm) and Jay Bouwmeester (hip). Netminder Carter Hutton already saw 30-plus shots in his prior two contests, so losing Gunnarsson likely would see that number increase further.
Gunnarsson missed practiced Monday with an illness, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Fortunately, Gunnarsson will have plenty of time to get better before the Blues play again. St. Louis begins a three-game trip to California on Thursday, so as long as the 31-year-old can get healthy in the next few days he shouldn't miss a game.
