  • Simon Despres: Heading overseas
    By RotoWire Staff

Despres agreed to terms on a one-year contract with HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL on Thursday. Despres appeared in just one contest all of last season after suffering a concussion. One has to wonder whether NHL clubs were hesitant to give him a look due to concerns over his history of head injuries. In any case, the blueliner will head to Europe for the first time in his six-year professional career.

  • Simon Despres: Waived for purpose of buyout
    By RotoWire Staff

Despres (head) was waived by the Ducks on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports. If the defenseman goes unclaimed, he'll be bought out of his remaining four-year contract. Despres missed all but one game of the 2016-17 campaign with a concussion. Per NHL rules, a player must receive medical clearance in order to be waived. If the 25-year-old is picked up off waivers, Anaheim will be free and clear of his $3.7 million cap hit. Otherwise, it will save $2.4 million against the cap in 2017-18 and would actually receive a cap credit in the following two years. Assuming there aren't any lingering concerns about his concussion history, the blueliner could be picked up by another club -- although likely not until after the buyout is complete given his inflated price tag.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Out again Sunday
    By RotoWire Staff

Despres (head) won't suit up for Game 6 on Sunday in Edmonton. Despres continues to watch the game from afar and it's unclear at this point when, or even if, he'll be able to play during the playoffs. Expect more updates on his status once he resumes practicing with the team.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Still waiting for return
    By RotoWire Staff

Despres (head) wasn't out for warmups ahead of Game 5 on Friday, per Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register. This is a clear indication that he won't play. Despres has only managed to play in one game all season, and that was the Oct. 13 season opener. He was taken off injured reserve in late April, but the Ducks aren't about to throw him into the fire in the middle of a tough playoff series.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Taken off injured reserve
    By RotoWire Staff

Despres (head) is no longer listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site. While there's no guarantee that Despres will be ready to go when the Ducks open the second round of the playoffs against the Oilers, his removal from the ranks of the IR seems to suggest that he could be ready for Game 1. The 25-year-old has not suited up since being knocked out of action during the first game of the season, so even if he is able to go soon, there's a chance he'll be dealing with some rust as he gets readjusted.
