Pasquale was signed to a one-year deal by the Oilers on Saturday. The 26-year-old was a member of the AHL Grand Rapids team that claimed the 2017 Calder Cup Trophy, but it was Jared Coreau doing all the heavy lifting between the pipes. Pasquale has yet to make his NHL debut and the fact that he's toiled in the minors for six straight seasons should be taken as an ominous sign.
Pasquale was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Thursday. Pasquale received an extended look in training camp, but he had virtually no chance of cracking the Opening Night roster with goalies Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard on the books at a combined cost of $9.35 million this season.
Pasquale was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Pasquale was waived one week ago, but he cleared and ended up with the minor-league affiliate. There's been no word on an injury to either Petr Mrazek or Jimmy Howard, so It's likely that Pasquale was called up in order to get an extended look in training camp with injured forward Ben Street (face) going to the minors in a corresponding move.
Pasquale was waived by the Red Wings on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Given that Pasquale was in the ECHL as recently as last season, it's no surprise that he isn't ready for hockey's biggest stage. In the likely event that he clears waivers, the 25-year-old backstop should wind up with AHL Grand Rapids in the upcoming campaign.
Eddie Pasquale recently underwent an operation on his hip and is out indefinitely, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
