Nugent-Hopkins signed an eight-year, $41 million contract with Edmonton on Tuesday. Nugent-Hopkins has appeared in 656 games for the Oilers since being selected first overall in the 2001 NHL Draft. Over those 10 seasons, the 28-year-old winger compiled four 20-goal campaigns and has topped the 50-point threshold five times. With a full 82-game campaign next year, Nugent-Hopkins should be capable of reaching both those marks in 2021-22 which makes him a top-end fantasy option.
Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal and added an assist in Monday's 4-3 triple overtime loss to the Jets in Game 4. Nugent-Hopkins tied the game for the Oilers in the second period on a terrific backhand goal from right in front of Connor Hellebuyck. Playing in 39:58 after the contest went to triple overtime and sealed the fate of the Oilers' 2021 season, the 28-year-old's two points were his only points of the series.
Nugent-Hopkins scored a power-play goal on his lone shot of the game in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over Montreal. He beat Montreal netminder Cayden Primeau blocker side with a wrist shot from above the left circle, tying the game at 2-2 midway through the opening period. Nugent-Hopkins, who has scored in back-to-back-games, has provided 16 goals and 19 assists in 51 contests this season. A career-high nine of his tallies have come with the man advantage.
Nugent-Hopkins tallied a goal on three shots in Monday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Canadiens. Kailer Yamamoto's shot attempt was blocked and rolled right to Nugent-Hopkins in the left faceoff circle, and he deposited it to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead in the first period. It was the 15th goal of the year for Nugent-Hopkins, who is back on the left side of Edmonton's second line with Yamamoto and Leon Draisaitl, a trio that was so effective for the Oilers down the stretch last season. An Edmonton playoff run will depend largely on secondary scoring in support of Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, particularly at even strength, and Nugent-Hopkins is one of the forwards who will be counted upon to provide it.
Nugent-Hopkins posted an assist and four shots on goal in Monday's 5-3 win over the Canucks. Nugent-Hopkins helped out on Dominik Kahun's goal late in the second period. In Monday's contest, Nugent-Hopkins centered the second line between Kahun and Kailer Yamamoto. The 28-year-old Nugent-Hopkins has 33 points (19 on the power play), 124 shots on net and a minus-4 rating through 46 contests, but he typically plays better when he's on the wing.
