Dumba (pectoral) should be ready for training camp, according to Wild GM Paul Fenton. A ruptured right pectoralis muscle wiped out 50 games from Dumba's 2018-19 campaign and ultimately required surgery. The 24-year-old defenseman -- who has been universally owned in fantasy games when healthy -- finished with 12 goals, 10 assists and 12 power-play points through 32 contests.
Dumba (pectoral) is listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site. Dumba is expected to be out until late March with an injury that stems from his fight against Matthew Tkachuk in a Dec. 15 contest against the Flames. The Wild waited several weeks before placing Dumba on IR, but now that he's surfaced on that list, the Wild are free to call up another player from AHL Iowa.
Dumba had surgery Wednesday to repair a ruptured right pectoralis muscle and is expected to miss a minimum of three months. Following weeks of speculation, the specifics surrounding Dumba's injury were made public Wednesday, as the team announced that the defenseman had surgery. The procedure, according to team doctors, will keep Dumba sidelined for a minimum of three months, all but ending his 2018-19 season. If Minnesota can climb up the standings enough to land in a playoff spot before season's end, Dumba could return for the playoffs, but a postseason berth for the Wild seems unlikely considering their struggles with consistency. The 24-year-old was in the midst of an excellent campaign, averaging a career-high 0.69 points per game over 32 contests.
Dumba will have surgery to address his upper-body injury. According to general manager Paul Fenton, "He's expected to have surgery next week...he will be out for a significant time." Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the club is unwilling to provide specifics on the nature or extent of Dumba's injury, so it's hard to know how long a "significant time" will be. In the meantime, we expect the defenseman to be placed on injured reserve in short order and will have to wait until after his surgery to see if the club announces a more definitive timetable.
Dumba (upper body) is expected to miss "significant" time due to an upper-body injury, ranging from weeks to months and potentially putting his season in jeopardy, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports. Dumba was initially expected to miss a week at the minimum, but Russo's report suggests he will be sidelined longer than that. He is seeking out medical opinions on how to deal with the injury, but if it's determined that surgery is required, the rest of Dumba's season could be threatened. Look for an update on his status when he's finished receiving opinions on the injury.
