  • Girgensons scored a power-play goal on three shots and added four hits in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Hurricanes. Girgensons got the Sabres within three goals late in the second period, but the comeback push didn't materialize. The 27-year-old is up to five goals, 10 points, 44 shots on net and 36 hits through 24 contests. He's maintained steady production in a middle-six role, which could put him on track to challenge his career-high 30 points from the 2014-15 season.

  • Girgensons posted an assist and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 5-1 win over the Lightning. Girgensons set up Robert Hagg's empty-net goal in the third period to help seal the Sabres' win. The 27-year-old Girgensons has started the season well with five points, 12 shots on net, five hits and a plus-4 rating in six contests. While he centers the fourth line at even strength, the Latvian continues to play a role on the power play. His best season was 2014-15, when he logged 15 goals and 15 helpers in 61 contests, but he hasn't reached the 20-point mark since.

  • Girgensons (hamstring) skated with some of his teammates Monday and will be ready for the Sabres' upcoming training camp, WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. Girgensons missed the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury during January's training camp, but he should be back to 100 percent well before Buffalo's regular-season opener Oct. 14 versus Montreal. Girgensons picked up 12 goals and 19 points through 69 games in 2019-20 and should be a regular in the Sabres' bottom six this season.
