  • Magnus Hellberg: Will play in China next season
    By RotoWire Staff

Hellberg agreed to terms with Kunlun of the KHL on Thursday, R-Sport reports. With Hellberg firmly entrenched as the third goalie in the Rangers' system, he'll head over to the KHL's only Chinese team in a bid to receive more playing time. The 26-year-old appeared in just two games for the Rangers this season, notching a win along with a 1.52 GAA and .929 save percentage. His stats weren't nearly as impressive in the AHL, though, as he went 12-15-2 with a 2.95 GAA and .903 save mark for Hartford.

  • Hellberg stopped 22 of 24 shots for his first career NHL victory Sunday against the Penguins. Hellberg turned in a strong performance to help the Rangers enter the postseason on a high note. The 26-year-old will likely be sent back down to the AHL, with Henrik Lundqvist and Antti Raanta representing the team's goaltending during the playoffs. We haven't seen enough of Hellberg at the NHL level to know what he's capable of, but he's put up solid numbers in the AHL, so he's one to keep an eye on.

  • Rangers' Magnus Hellberg: Surprise starter Sunday
    By RotoWire Staff

Hellberg will replace Anti Raanta (knee) as the starter for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Penguins,Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. Hellberg was believed to be recalled to give Lundqvist the day off Sunday, but will instead be manning the crease after Antti Raanta took a puck off the knee in practice Friday. The 26-year-old netminder has very limited experience at the top level and the experience he's had hasn't been good. Hellberg will look for a better result Sunday in what will be a lineup devoid of many big names on both sides.
