  • Chiasson potted a goal and recorded two shots in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Islanders. The marker is Chiasson's first of the season and ends a four-game scoring drought. With only two points on the season, the second-round pick of the Stars in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft may struggle to remain in the lineup consistently once Brett Connolly (upper body), Andre Burakovsky (thumb) and Tyler Graovac (upper body) get healthy, so his fantasy value remains quite minimal for the foreseeable future.

  • Chiasson had an assist in Friday's 4-3 overtime win against the Red Wings. Relegated to the fourth line after Tom Wilson's return from suspension, Chiasson picked up his first point of the 2017-18 season Friday. With Tyler Graovac (upper body) expected to be out for the near future, the door is open for the second-round pick from the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to get some consistent ice time. However, Chiasson's lack of power-play time and competition for quality minutes confines his fantasy value to the deepest of leagues.

  • Chiasson will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, Tarik El-Bashir of NBC Sports Washington reports. Signed to a one-year deal after a decent training camp, the 27-year-old winger has been a non-factor thus far with no points and a minus-2 rating in six games. With Tom Wilson back from suspension and depth players like Nathan Walker, Devante Smith-Pelly and Tyler Graovac to contend with, Chiasson faces a tough battle just to get consistent ice time at this point, and what little fantasy relevance he had is fading fast.

  • Capitals' Alex Chiasson: Locks in one-year deal
    By RotoWire Staff

Chiasson penned a one-year contract with Washington on Wednesday. Chiasson is one of just a handful of guys that was able to parlay his professional tryout agreement into a contract. The winger missed just one game for the Flames last season in which he snagged 12 goals and a dozen helpers. The 27-year-old is unlikely to reach the 20-goal mark, but 30 points probably isn't out of the question.

Chiasson will attend the Capitals' training camp on a professional tryout agreement. Chiasson was a decent contributor while skating in a bottom-six role for the Flames last season, notching 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 81 games. The 26-year-old will likely earn a spot on an NHL roster prior to Opening Night, but he won't produce enough offense this season to be considered a viable option in season-long fantasy leagues.
