  • Smith-Pelly (illness) was present for Wednesday's practice, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports. Smith-Pelly was sent home prior to Monday's practice -- the team's most recent -- due to the illness, but his return to the ice Wednesday indicates that he'll be ready to play Thursday against the Kings. While the former Duck is currently scoring at a rate of 0.28 points per game, Smith-Pelly could see a spike in production if given a chance in the team's top-six forward group or on the power play.

  • Smith-Pelly (illness) wasn't on the ice for Monday's practice, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports. With three goals and seven points in 25 games, the first-year Cap has produced about how one would expect when considering his past performance and level of talent. It's certainly worth keeping an eye on Smith-Pelly's status in the coming days, but it's unlikely that he'll miss any game action with Washington's next contest coming Thursday against Los Angeles.

  • Smith-Pelly assisted on Washington's lone goal during Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Sabres. Smith-Pelly is doing all he can to keep his spot in the top six with two points in his last two games. He'll need to fend off Brett Connolly (upper body) in the short term and Andre Burakovsky (thumb) a few weeks down the line to do so. The odds are not in his favor, but that shouldn't stop fantasy owners from adding the journeyman winger in standard formats and riding out this good fortune as long as it lasts.

  • Capitals' Devante Smith-Pelly: Lights lamp Monday
    By RotoWire Staff

Smith-Pelly potted a goal during Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Coyotes. The 25-year-old winger scored his second goal since being moved to a top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The promotion certainly boosts Smith-Pelly's fantasy value in standard and daily formats, but with Brett Connolly (upper body) nearing a return, it's not clear how secure his place in such a prominent role is. He will need more nights like Monday to keep such a coveted place in the top six, but his fantasy value will certainly be undercut should he return to the bottom lines.

  • Smith-Pelly registered a goal in Saturday's 5-2 comeback win over the Oilers. The journeyman winger picked up his first goal and fourth point of the campaign after being promoted to the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. There's been a revolving door at that post as head coach Barry Trotz continues to audition players for top-six ice time, so the upside for Smith-Pelly is tremendous if he can keep his spot there while Andre Burakovsky (thumb) and Brett Connolly (upper body) convalesce. He's worth a speculative add in standard formats for the time being and a legitimate look in daily formats on a thinner Sunday schedule.
