Leipsic picked up two assists in a 5-2 home win over Arizona on Tuesday. It was the winger's first two points as a Golden Knight. Leipsic entered this year with just six games of NHL experience but already seems to be settling in nicely with Vegas. With 105 points in the AHL over the previous two seasons, he certainly has the potential to be a regular contributor with the big club.
Leipsic signed a two-year, $1.3 million contract with the Golden Knights on Saturday. Leipsic spent the entirety of the 2016-17 campaign with AHL Toronto, racking up an impressive 51 points (18 goals, 33 assists) in 49 games. The 23-year-old winger will likely start next season skating in a bottom-six role, so he probably won't get enough ice time to be a desirable option in season-long fantasy formats out of the gate. However, if he's able to lock down a top-six role at some point during the campaign, he'll be a player fantasy owners will want to keep an eye on.
Leipsic has been selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, Darren Dreger of TSN reports. Following a distinguished junior career in which he won the WHL scoring title in 2012-13, Leipsic has proven to be one of the AHL's better players over the past three seasons. Leipsic only has six games of NHL experience under his belt, but he should get a shot at regular playing time with Vegas. The pivot is an undersized (5-foot-9, 165 pounds) energy player with good hands. While the odds are against him developing into a top-six forward at the NHL level, he'll finally get a chance to prove his worth with the Golden Knights.
Leipsic was called up to the Leafs on an emergency basis Thursday. Leipsic's recorded 37 points in 50 games with AHL Toronto this season. A checking winger with some offensive flair, Leipsic's ascension to the parent club is the result of an upper-body injury to Brad Boyes.
Leipsic has been loaned to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, the Toronto Sun reports. The 21-year-old Leipsic, who has recorded a goal and an assist in four games for the Leafs this season, was part of a roster churn up front on Monday that resulted in three forwards (including Leipsic) being sent to the AHL and five being recalled by the big club.
