  • Devils' Damon Severson: Offense slow to come
    By RotoWire Staff

Severson scored a goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Panthers. Severson has struggled to put up points and build on last year's strong 31-point showing. He has five points in 15 games and still carries comparisons to Shea Weber. But like many young defenders, Severson needs to build more stability into his game before he can be a strong fantasy asset.

  • Devils' Damon Severson: Returns to lineup Thursday
    By RotoWire Staff

Severson logged 20:06 of ice time with 3:07 on the power play during Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Edmonton. After being a healthy scratch against the Blues on Tuesday, it was encouraging to see Severson back in the lineup and playing big minutes -- especially with the man advantage. Unfortunately, the emergence of Will Butcher has hurt Severson's fantasy value, and the latter has just one goal and four points through 14 games this season.

  • Devils' Damon Severson: Mixed results Tuesday
    By RotoWire Staff

Severson collected a power-play assist in addition to a pair of hits and minus-3 rating Tuesday, as the Devils squeaked by the Lightning 5-4 in a shootout. If you have fantasy shares in the Saskatchewan native, here's hoping the ugly plus-minus figure didn't cancel out the positive scoring you received from his man-advantage helper. Attempting to build off a career-high 31 points (three goals, 28 assists) from the 2016-17 campaign, Severson has two assists standing as his only points through six contests to start the new hockey year.

  • Devils' Damon Severson: Inks new deal
    By RotoWire Staff

Severson ended his period as a restricted free agent Monday, signing a six-year, $25 million contract. As NHL.com recently reported, Devils GM Ray Shero was confident of getting a deal agreed prior to training camp beginning Thursday. Now that the ink is drying on his new deal, Severson can focus on joining the team and battling to become New Jersey's No. 1 defenseman. Severson will likely fly under the radar in drafts this fall, but could be a good late-round option given his record of improving season-over-season to go with his significant role on the power play.

  • Devils' Damon Severson: Nearing contract agreement
    By RotoWire Staff

Severson, currently a restricted free agent, is making progress in negotiations with the team to sign a new deal prior to training camp beginning Thursday, Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com reports. Despite playing for a disappointing Devils team, Severson made strides in 2016-17, playing a career-high 80 games while also recording career-best marks for assists (28), points (31), power-play points (13), hits (79), and blocks (73). Though not a household name, Severson could be a great depth option for nearly any fantasy roster, especially if his game continues to develop.
