  • Kuhnhackl (lower body) was designated for long-term injured reserve and sent down to AHL Bridgeport for a conditioning assignment. Kuhnhackl has already been out of the lineup since Oct. 25 versus Ottawa, so his placement on long-term IR won't affect his recovery timeline. The Sound Tigers are in action versus AHL Utica and Syracuse on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Assuming Kuhnhackl plays in both games, he could be in contention to suit up for the Islanders as early as Monday's matchup with Tampa Bay.

  • Kuhnhackl (lower body) didn't accompany the Islanders on their two-game road trip to Detroit and Montreal, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Kuhnhackl returned to practice Friday, so it's a little bit of a surprise that he didn't travel with the team. His next chance to play will be Thursday versus the Golden Knights.

  • Kuhnhackl (lower body) was able to practice with the Islanders on Friday, Denis Gorman of Newsday reports. Kuhnhackl hasn't played since suffering an injury Oct. 25 in Ottawa. Even if he's deemed healthy enough to return to the lineup, he won't be a lock to play versus Columbus on Saturday.

  • Kuhnhackl (lower body) has started to skate on his own, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. This would seem to be the first step in his recovery, with the next being a return to practice. There is no word yet on when that may occur, however. Kuhnhackl has missed the last seven games due to the injury and has yet to earn a point this season in the six games he has played. What may be most important to note here is that even when healthy, Kuhnhackl may once again not be a regular in the lineup as the Isles will have several forwards that have the same skill set and not all can play at once.

  • General manager Lou Lamoriello said Sunday that Kuhnahckl (lower body) is out 4-to-6 weeks, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports. Kuhnhackl suffered the injury lat in Friday's contest, and required help getting to the locker room. If this timeline holds, the best-case scenario for the forward would be a return in four weeks. Lamoriello said the team wouldn't call up any forwards at this time, which means Ross Johnston, Oliver Wahlstrom and Michael Dal Colle will draw into the lineup for the time being.
