Lessio signed with Russian club Medvescak Zagreb on Friday, TSN reports. Lessio had his 2015-16 campaign cut short due to a knee injury, and subsequently failed to re-up with the Habs when he became a restricted free agent this summer. While he was not short on fanfare as LA's second-round pick in the 2011 draft, Lessio fell short of his lofty billing as a gifted offensive producer with wheels. In fact, the 23-year-old only produced seven points in 41 games between the Coyotes and Canadiens, plus he had a minus-11 rating over three years.
Lessio (knee) has been ruled out for the reminder of the 2015-16 campaign, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Lessio, a second-round pick in 2011, suited up in 12 games for the injury-hit Habs this season, logging a goal and an assist. Slated to become a restricted free agent this offseason, it's unclear whether Montreal will retain his services.
Lessio will not be available for Saturday's game against the Rangers, John Lu of TSN Montreal reports. It's unclear what will hold Lessio out of Saturday's contest, but his absence shouldn't have much fantasy implications (2 points in 12 games). Expect another update on the 22-year-old winger when he's fit to rejoin the lineup, but his void will be filled by the return of Sven Andrighetto (upper body) on Saturday.
Lessio scored his first goal of the year Tuesday, snapping a 3-3 tie in the third period to deliver a 4-3 win over Anaheim. His first goal in a Canadiens sweater couldn't have come at a more opportune time -- well, unless you're hoping the team tanks for draft picks, as most of their fans must be at this point. The 22-year-old winger has a 29-goal, 54-point AHL season on his resume, but that was two years ago now and things haven't been nearly so rosy since.
Lessio registered a helper and three hits in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Stars. Lessio recorded his first points in five appearances on the season, as the 2011 second-round pick has spent most of the year injured or in the AHL. The 23-year-old has an opportunity to showcase his skills as Montreal's playoff chances are slim to none.
