Bailey posted one point -- an assist -- in 11 games with the Flyers during 2018-19. He saw more NHL action after the trade to Philadelphia in January, but that's not saying much considering Bailey didn't play a game for Buffalo this season. In 11 games, Bailey barely played, averaging 5:44 of ice time. In addition to only one point, he had just five shots on net.
Bailey has an assist, two PIM and an even rating in three games since getting recalled from the minors on March 21. The 23-year-old was a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Maple Leafs, but Bailey has taken advantage of the minimal ice time he's received since returning to the NHL. The assist he posted last Thursday was his first point of the season, and two of his four shots on net in 2018-19 have come within the last week. He has five goals and nine points in 62 career NHL games.
Bailey was recalled from the minors Thursday and will suit up against Chicago, John Boruk of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Bailey will take Michael Raffl's (undisclosed) spot in the lineup. In his seven appearances this season, the 23-year-old Bailey averaged a meager 5:45 of ice time and managed a mere two shots, nine hits and three blocks. The Buffalo native is set to slot into a bottom-six role, which limits his fantasy value.
Bailey was reassigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, The Flyers only have 12 forwards on the active roster with Bailey heading back to the minors, so this move is likely due to the Flyers following rules concerning inactive players more than anything else. However, the depth winger could always get called back up ahead of Thursday's game against the Blackhawks.
Bailey was promoted from AHL Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Bailey's frequent moves between the AHL and NHL are due to emergency recall rules that mandate a player be sent back down if he doesn't suit up while with the team. At this point, it might be worth it for the Flyers to just use one of their four permanent recalls in order to save the winger from living out of his suitcase. Even if Philippe Myers (illness) doesn't play against the Habs on Tuesday, Bailey is unlikely to see the ice and will just be there in case somebody gets hurt in warmups.
