Peca scored a pair of points in nine games with Ottawa before the season was paused. Two points in nine games isn't impressive, but given that the Senators just acquired him, the adjustment is understandable. Ottawa will be patient with Peca after trading for him from Montreal, but he's unlikely to help out fantasy-wise at the moment.
Peca notched an assist in 9:00 during Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets. Peca was acquired from the Canadiens at the trade deadline, and he was unable to get to Columbus' Nationwide Arena in time for puck drop. He was definitely there in the third period, drawing the secondary helper on Colin White's tally for his first point with his new team. It's also his first point in six appearances this season -- Peca doesn't project to make enough of an impact for fantasy owners to notice him in redraft formats.
The Senators acquired Peca from the Canadiens in exchange for Aaron Luchuk and a 2020 seventh-round pick Monday. Peca has spent the majority of the season with AHL Laval, recording 13 points through 34 games. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Peca will join the big club and is expected to play in Monday's game versus the Blue Jackets.
Peca was reassigned to AHL Laval on Wednesday, Arpon Basu of The Athletic reports. Peca appeared in only five games with the Canadiens during this stint, missing a month due to a knee injury. He managed four shots, three hits and a minus-2 rating in that time. Peca's demotion indicates Joel Armia (hand) may be ready to return soon.
Peca had one hit and was minus-1 over 7:57 of ice time in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Ottawa. Peca returned to the lineup after missing 14 games with a knee injury and skated on the third line. He was getting regular shifts until the Senators took control of the play late in the second period. Peca played just 51 seconds in the third period and was stapled to the bench after being on the ice for Ottawa's game-tying goal.
