  • Simon (undisclosed) left Monday's game against the Flames and did not return. Simon took a shot up high and immediately went back to the locker room under his own power. An update on his status should be available before Wednesday's contest in Edmonton.

  • Simon managed an assist and two shots on goal in Monday's 3-1 win over the Jets. Simon helped out on Danton Heinen's go-ahead goal in the third period. Prior to Monday, Simon had gone six appearances without a point while sitting out as a healthy scratch six times in that span. He had four points in the first five games of the year, but without a stable place in the lineup, the Czech winger doesn't need to be rostered in fantasy.

  • Simon scored a goal on four shots and was plus-2 in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Tampa Bay. Simon struck at the 11:32 mark of the third period, flicking a long shot from the point that deflected off a Tampa Bay defenseman to give the Penguins a 3-0 edge. Simon went 11 games without a point with Calgary in 2020-21 before returning to the franchise he spent his first five NHL seasons with.

  • Simon inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Penguins on Wednesday. Simon returns to the Penguins after one season with the Flames, which saw him fail to register a point in 11 contests. The Czech center was significantly more productive during his previous stint in Pittsburgh, which saw him secure a pair of 20-point campaigns. While Simon will no doubt be hoping for a full-time roster spot, the fact that his new deal is two-way in nature does indicate the organization expects him to spend some time in the minors.

  • Simon will become a free agent after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Flames on Monday. Simon was held without a point in 11 games with the Flames last season. He has 184 games of NHL experience, mostly with the Penguins, which could help him land a deal this offseason. He averaged just 9:36 of ice time and totaled four shots on goal during the 2020-21 season.
