Peeke was recalled from AHL Cleveland on Monday, Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Peeke was called up with Zach Werenski (shoulder) out for several weeks. The 21-year-old blueliner has five goals and 12 points in 21 games with AHL Cleveland. He'll likely be an insurance body for the time being.
Peeke was assigned to AHL Cleveland on Tuesday. A second-round pick in the 2016 draft, Peeke had a strong training camp but was simply squeezed out of the picture due to the Jackets' depth on the blue line. The 21-year-old could make his NHL debut as soon as an injury opens up a spot for him in Columbus.
Peeke agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Columbus on Monday. Drafted by the Blue Jackets 34th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, Peeke is coming off his junior season at Notre Dame, in which he notched 24 points in 40 games as the team's captain. The 21-year-old will link up with Columbus and could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday's matchup with Boston, though the team could opt to just have him practice for now, rather than push him into the lineup this close to the playoffs.
