O'Regan was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday. The Sabres didn't use the promising center in Tuesday's game against the Flyers, but perhaps they should have, as the team ended up with a 5-2 road loss. O'Regan will pick up where he left off with the AHL's Amerks, having posted 18 goals and 34 points over 53 games this season.
O'Regan was called up from AHL Rochester on Tuesday. Following the trade deadline, the league afforded teams four standard recalls, so O'Regan gets bumped right back up to Buffalo. The 25-year-old has skated in 25 games in his NHL career, racking up just five points. Though he was recalled, it's unclear whether or not the German will suit up in Tuesday's tilt against the Flyers.
O'Regan was returned to AHL Rochester on Monday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. As noted by Hamilton, the NHL will afford teams only four standard recalls once the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline passes, meaning the Sabres will have to carefully strategize future call-ups for O'Regan or any other player currently serving the AHL's Amerks. The German-born center has appeared in 25 games at the top level, with his five points benefiting only the Sharks from 2016-18.
O'Regan has been brought up from Rochester of the AHL. O'Regan has 34 points in 53 games with Rochester, though he was called up due to the Sabres only having 12 active forwards on the roster. O'Regan has yet to play an NHL game this season. He has five points throughout 24 games in his NHL career.
O'Regan, acquired by the Sabres in last season's Evander Kane deal, has four goals and six points through eight games for Rochester of the AHL this season. O'Regan won the AHL Rookie of the Year award two seasons ago with the San Jose Barracuda, but his fine scoring touch hasn't kicked in during limited auditions in the NHL. He's also getting overshadowed by some of the Sabres' bigger-name prospects in an organization that's full of them. Still, O'Regan has put up 104 points in 120 AHL games and at some point he's going to get some run with the parent club. We'll also mention that he's a former college teammate of Jack Eichel, so perhaps a role on Captain Jack's line is the end game if everything worked out perfectly for O'Regan.
