  • Toews (undisclosed) will miss some time to start the campaign after undergoing offseason surgery, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. The Avalanche have yet to reveal what kind of surgery Toews underwent or how long he'll be on the shelf, but it's safe to assume he'll miss at least a few regular-season contests to start the year. The 27-year-old blueliner racked up nine goals and 31 points while posting a plus-29 rating and averaging a whopping 24:46 of ice time per contest through 53 games last campaign.

  • Toews scored a goal on five shots, blocked three shots and added two hits in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Golden Knights in Game 6. Toews struck just 23 seconds into the first period, but the Avalanche's only lead of the game lasted just 52 seconds before Nick Holden tied it for Vegas. The 27-year-old Toews had six points, 19 shots on net, 11 blocked shots, 10 hits and a plus-10 rating in 10 playoff outings. He figures to be a key veteran on the Avalanche's blue line heading into next season.

  • Toews had an assist, two shots on goal and two PIM in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Golden Knights in Game 5 of their playoff series. With seconds remaining in the first period, Toews harmlessly cleared the puck out of Colorado's zone to Brandon Saad in the neutral zone. Saad quickly entered the offensive zone and beat Marc-Andre Fleury high and stick side -- a shot the goalie should have stopped. It was Toews' third assist of the series and fifth of the postseason. The series moves back to Las Vegas for Game 6 with the Avalanche down, three games to two.

  • Toews registered an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Golden Knights in Game 1. Toews set up Mikko Rantanen's opening tally at 4:55 of the first period. The 27-year-old Toews hasn't made a huge scoring impact with three assists through five games, but he's been steady in his own zone with a plus-8 rating and five blocked shots. The Canadian blueliner is more of a defensive presence, but he had a career-high 31 points in 53 regular-season outings as well.
