  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Joining Team USA
    By RotoWire Staff

Werenski was added to the Team USA roster for the 2019 IIHF World Championship, Jeff Svoboda of Jackets' Insider reports. Werenski ended the season on an eight-game goal drought, but should be able to add some offensive firepower to the Team USA blue line. The 21-year-old reached the 40-point threshold for the second time in his young career this season, including 15 power-play points. The Michigan native will be a restricted free agent this offseason and will garner a significant pay raise compared to hsi entry-level deal ($925,000).

  • Werenski scored a goal and an assist -- both on the power play -- while adding two shots, a blocked shot, a hit, a five-minute fighting major and a plus-1 rating in Friday's 5-1 win over the Lightning in Game 2 of their first-round series. The game got increasingly physical as the Bolts got more frustrated, and just a few minutes after Werenski scored a first-period tally he got into a scrap with Brayden Point -- the first fight of the young defenseman's NHL career. Werenski has notched three points (one goal, two helpers), all with the man advantage, to help the Jackets jump out to a 2-0 lead, with the series now shifting back to Columbus on Sunday.

  • Werenski underwent concussion protocol Sunday after being elbowed in the head by Jack Eichel during a 4-0 win over the Sabres, Tom Reed of The Athletic reports. Werenski played just shy of 18 minutes despite the head hit, able to return following a brief absence. It's likely the top-pairing blueliner will undergo further testing Monday, but as of now, both team and player seem to have dodged a bullet. Werenski picked up his 33rd assist in Sunday's win.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Will be active Thursday
    By RotoWire Staff

Werenski (undisclosed) is good to go for Thursday's game against the Canadiens, Arpon Basu of The Athletic reports. Werenski hasn't missed a game all season, likely making him a popular choice among risk-averse fantasy players. Columbus' eighth overall pick has posted 11 goals, 32 assists and 15 power-play points through 76 games.

  • Werenski sustained an (undisclosed) injury in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Islanders, but there was no official update available after the game, Alison Lukan of The Athletic reports. Werenski left the game midway through the third period, but not before tallying a power-play assist to put him five points away from a new career high. The supremely talented offensive defenseman is bound to be reexamined ahead of Thursday's game against the Canadiens.
