With another two assists Tuesday against Vegas, Pominville has now scored two points four separate times in seven games this season. Pominville's two helpers give him nine points in seven games, providing a nice surprise for the struggling Sabres. He's established excellent chemistry with Evander Kane and Jack Eichel, and it looks like the trio will remain together as head coach Phil Housley fiddles with the other lines. Scoring in bunches -- as Pominville is doing -- is often a sign that a player has a hot hand, so don't buy into a resurgent Pominville just yet. He hasn't scored over 30 goals or 60 points since 2013, and it's clear that Eichel and Kane are doing most of the heavy lifting carrying the play. Pominville is worth holding in the shorter term, but remains a dicey option long term.
Pominville scored both goals for his team in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks. Pominville surprisingly has a pair of two-goal performances in his first four games back with Buffalo after totaling just 24 goals in 153 appearances with the Wild over the previous two seasons. The veteran winger will have value as long as he's skating on the top line with Jack Eichel and Zemgus Girgensons, both of whom assisted on each of Pominville's goals.
Pominville tallied two goals on three shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Canadiens on Thursday. After spending the last four-plus seasons in Minnesota, Pominville is back with Buffalo. He certainly made an impact in his return. That being said, Pominville has scored 13 and 11 goals in his last two seasons, so let's wait before christening this a true renaissance.
Pominville found the back of the net twice against Pittsburgh in Tuesday's 4-3 preseason victory. After being traded from Minnesota to Buffalo in the offseason, Pominville looked sharp in his first preseason action. However, the 34-year-old scored a mere 13 goals in the entire 2016-17 season with Minnesota, and we'll have to wait and see if he can carry this production into the 2017-18 season. The key takeaway from Tuesday's performance is that both goals were primarily assisted by Jack Eichel; if Pominville continues developing chemistry, a likely pairing with Eichel and Evander Kane would certainly boost his point production.
The Wild traded Pominville, defenseman Marco Scandella and a fourth -round pick in 2018 to the Sabres on Friday in exchange for forwards Tyler Ennis, Marcus Foligno and a third-round pick in 2018, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports. Pominville was originally selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 2001 draft, and he provided the franchise with 456 points (185 goals, 271 assists) in 578 games between 2003-13. He managed a respectable .60 points per game with the Wild this past season, but toiled in the bottom six far too often, skating for an average of 14:14 per contest. A return to Buffalo could invigorate Pominville, where he's currently penciled in as a top-six winger along with Kyle Okposo, Evander Kane and Sam Reinhart, so don't lose sight of him in fantasy drafts this fall.
