  • Luukkonen (hip) will miss the first month of the season, according to general manager Jason Botterill. Luukkonen figures to be the third netminder on the Sabres' depth chart once fully fit and will split the goaltending duties in AHL Rochester. With three years remaining on his entry-level deal, the Finn could still work his way into the mix for Buffalo, but may have to move elsewhere for a shot at being the No. 1 option.

  • Although Luukkonen (hip surgery) will not take part in the team's first training camp practices next week, he remains "on track" in his recovery, assistant general manager Randy Sexton told The Buffalo News. Luukkonen -- who underwent hip surgery in April -- may be the team's top goalie prospect, but between his inexperience and what will be a delayed start to the 2019-20 season, he'll certainly start his campaign in the minors with AHL Rochester. He's expected to be ready when games begin in October.

  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Positive indicator
    By RotoWire Staff

Luukkonen, who underwent hip surgery in April, was back on the ice Wednesday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Luukkonen has been asked by the team to not provide updates to the media, so perhaps we'll get something more from the Sabres in the near future. The team's top goaltending prospect is on a six-month recovery timetable, though being on the ice at some level four months in is a good sign.

  • Luukkonen (hip) has been named the 2018-19 OHL's Most Outstanding Player. Luukkonen's North American debut was nothing short of brilliant. His numbers for Sudbury were exceptional (38-11-2, 2.50 GAA, .920 save percentage, six shutouts) and he deserved the honor. Luukkonen was also named to the World Junior Championship's all-tournament team over the holiday season. The big Finn underwent hip surgery in late April and is expected to be sidelined up to six months. Luukkonen will be in a race against time to be ready for Buffalo's training camp in September.

  • Luukkonen underwent successful hip surgery Thursday, with the Sabres goalie prospect facing a six-month recovery timetable. As noted in this official team release, Luukkonen managed to appear in 53 games for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL this season, adding a league-leading 38 wins and six shutouts to complement a 2.50 GAA and .920 save percentage. While it's obviously a good sign that his surgery went without a hitch, Luukkonen cannot afford any setbacks in his recovery if he is to still have a chance at participating in training camp ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
