Boqvist skated just 12:12 in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Calgary, registering two hits. Boqvist saw the least ice time of any Devils forward, and he's still looking for his first NHL point through five games. The 21-year-old Swede has dressed for each of the Devils' last three games, but his bottom-six deployment will keep Boqvist irrelevant for fantasy purposes.
Boqvist will make his NHL debut Saturday against the Sabres. Boqvist was a healthy scratch for New Jersey's opener, but the Swede will enter in a bottom-six role for the season's second game. He was selected 36th overall in the 2017 draft.
Boqvist has made New Jersey's Opening Night roster. The team's second-round selection from the 2017 draft had an impressive camp and will stick around with the big club to open the season. Expect the Devils to work Boqvist into their lineup, as there's little reason to have him remain with the team if he's not getting playing time.
Boqvist inked a three-year, entry-level contract with New Jersey on Monday. Boqvist racked up 35 points in 51 outings with Brynas IF Gavle in Sweden, earning himself an ELC from the Devils. Drafted by the club with the 36th overall pick of the 2017 NHL Draft, the center will get an opportunity to secure a spot on the 23-man roster during training camp, but may have to settle for playing for AHL Binghamton to start the 2019-20 campaign.
