  • McKenzie will join EHC Freiburg on loan for the start of the 2020-21 campaign. McKenzie's loan agreement includes a release clause for whenever the 2020-21 campaign kicks off in North America. The 22-year-old winger is still waiting to make his NHL debut and will likely continue playing primarily with AHL Manitoba next year.

  • McKenzie (upper body) was sent down to AHL Manitoba on Wednesday. McKenzie was plagued by an upper-body issue throughout training camp, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him reassigned to the minors once cleared to play. Given the organization's depth at forward, the Alberta native could struggle to earn a call-up this season.

  • McKenzie will miss the start of Jets' training camp after undergoing offseason surgery, Ken Wiebe of The Athletic reports. McKenzie was a longshot to make the 23-man roster to begin with, so his injury concerns will only serve to cement his spot in the AHL come Opening Night. The 2017 seventh-round pick managed just 16 points in 47 games with the Moose last year and will need to significantly improve his offensive skill set in order to earn a call-up in 2019-20.

  • McKenzie scored two goals in a 5-3 preseason win versus the Oilers on Sunday. The 2017 seventh-round pick -- 198th overall -- made his Jets preseason debut and authored quite the statement, scoring two goals in just over 10 minutes of action. McKenzie, 20, is coming off consecutive 80-plus point seasons in junior and in just one game has already made a strong case to stay in the NHL. Despite his stellar play, the former member of the Portland Winterhawks will likely begin 2018-19 in AHL Manitoba.

  • McKenzie agreed to terms with the Jets on a three-year, entry-level contract valued at $741,700 annually Tuesday. As noted in the report, McKenzie led the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) with 47 goals in 87 games last season, plus he registered 40 helpers to boot. The signing is big news for the 20-year-old who went to the Jets in the seventh round (198th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and he'll begin his professional career with AHL Manitoba in 2018-19.
