  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Reassigned to AHL

Sogaard was demoted to AHL Belleville on Thursday. Sogaard allowed 10 goals in his last four NHL starts combined before being sent down Thursday. Joonas Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg are both under contract through 2024-25, so Sogaard will likely continue to spend most of his time in the minors next season.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Loses close game

Sogaard stopped 14 of 16 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Ducks. Sogaard didn't face a lot of traffic, but goals early in the second and third period ended up being enough to send him to the loss. The 23-year-old goalie is down to 1-3-0 with a 4.04 GAA and an .859 save percentage over six appearances this season. Anton Forsberg (lower body) was healthy enough to back up Wednesday and Joonas Korpisalo (illness) is also on the road trip, so Sogaard's stint with the big club may not last much longer.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: In goal Wednesday

Sogaard will protect the road goal versus the Ducks on Wednesday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard will start his second game in a row after stopping 36 of 39 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers on Saturday. It's unclear who will back him up -- coming into Wednesday, Anton Forsberg was dealing with a lower-body injury and Joonas Korpisalo was sick.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Solid night against Flyers

Sogaard made 36 saves in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Every goal was a tough one. Sogaard had a bead on the first one, but Joel Farabee redirected the shot past him at 1:08 of the first. Tyson Foerster scored twice in the last minute of the second, first on a 2-on-1 and then 45 seconds later on a penalty shot. Sogaard was solid Saturday, but he's 1-2-0 with a 4.58 GAA and .857 save percentage in five NHL appearances this season. He will head back to the AHL as soon as Joonas Korpisalo (illness) returns to action.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Sent down

Sogaard was sent down to AHL Belleville on Wednesday. Sogaard has given up 14 goals on 80 shots across four NHL appearances this season. The 23-year-old will swap places with Kevin Mandolese during the NHL's All-Star break, though it's unclear if this move will stick once the Senators' season resumes Feb. 10 versus the Maple Leafs.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Pulled after first period

Sogaard allowed three goals on 11 shots before he was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo to start the second period in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Predators. It was a tough night for Sogaard, though the 23-year-old netminder was spared the loss as Ottawa rallied for four unanswered goals to earn the overtime victory. Sogaard is 1-1-0 with an ugly .825 save percentage and 5.09 GAA in four appearances this season. Still, he'll likely remain the backup to Korpisalo until Anton Forsberg (groin) is able to return.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Tending twine Monday

Sogaard will patrol the home crease Monday against Nashville, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard has stopped 58 of 69 shots in three NHL appearances this season en route to a 1-1-0 record. Nashville is tied for 18th in the league this campaign with 2.98 goals per contest.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting in Philadelphia

Sogaard will guard the road goal Sunday against the Flyers, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Soggard surrendered six goals on 33 shots in a 7-4 loss to Colorado on Tuesday during his NHL season debut. He will get the second half of Ottawa's back-to-back after Joonas Korpisalo played in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to Winnipeg. Philadelphia is tied for 22nd in the league this campaign with 2.93 goals per contest.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Fades late in season debut

Sogaard stopped 27 of 33 shots in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Avalanche. Colorado's final goal was scored into an empty net. Sogaard made some big stops early in his first NHL start of the season and Ottawa held a 4-2 lead late in the second period, but things began to unravel after Mikko Rantanen snapped a shot past the netminder before the second intermission. Sogaard was posting solid numbers for AHL Belleville prior to his promotion with a 2.48 GAA and a .920 save percentage in 16 outings, so he should get a few more chances to prove himself before Anton Forsberg (groin) returns from IR.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Defending cage versus Avs

Sogaard will patrol the blue paint at home against Colorado on Tuesday, Wayne Scanlan of Sportsnet reports. Sogaard will make his first NHL start of the season, having played exclusively in the minors this year. With AHL Belleville, the 23-year-old Dane is sporting an 8-5-2 record to go with a 2.48 GAA. With Anton Forsberg (groin) out long term, Sogaard figures to serve primarily as the No. 2 option behind Joonas Korpisalo.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Heads to minors

Sogaard was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Sunday. Sogaard's return to the minors could bode well for the availability of Joonas Korpisalo (undisclosed) ahead of Monday's contest against Florida.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Returns to AHL

Sogaard was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Sunday. Sogaard suited up as Anton Forsberg's backup in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over Minnesota. Joonas Korpisalo (undisclosed) has plenty of time to recover from a minor injury before Friday's home game against the Islanders.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting season finale

Sogaard will defend the road cage against the Sabres on Thursday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Sogaard has appeared in 18 games for the Senators this season in which he posted an 8-6-2 record, 3.29 GAA and .889 save percentage. The fact that the Sens are giving this last game of the season to Sogaard would seem to indicate that Cam Talbot won't be re-signed ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, which could open the door for Sogaard to be the No. 1 option.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Stops 27 in win

Sogaard allowed two goals on 29 shots in Monday's 3-2 win over Carolina. Sogaard was sharp Monday, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a winning effort. It's the first win for Sogaard since March 27, as he's dropped to a backup role since Cam Talbot's return from injury. The 22-year-old Sogaard improves to 8-6-2 with an .889 save percentage on the season through 18 appearances.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Back at practice

Sogaard (illness) returned to practice Wednesday and should be available against the Panthers on Thursday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. The team hasn't named a starter for Thursday's tilt but Sogaard should at least be in contention. With just four games remaining, the 22-year-old Dane probably shouldn't expect to see a ton of starts and could end the year having posted a 7-6-2 record and 3.24 GAA in 16 appearances. With Cam Talbot headed for free agency, Sogaard could be in competition for the starting job heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Leaves game

Sogaard wasn't feeling well and left Saturday's game versus the Maple Leafs, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Sogaard allowed three goals on 16 shots over the first two periods. He won't travel to Columbus on Sunday, but it's possible the netminder could link up with the Senators later in the trip, which includes stops in Carolina on Tuesday and Florida on Thursday. Cam Talbot relieved Sogaard and will likely start against the Blue Jackets.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Stops 32 in win

Sogaard stopped 32 of 34 shots in Monday's 5-2 win over the Panthers. Sogaard was solid Monday, allowing just a pair of goals to Gustav Forsling en route to a 5-2 victory. Sogaard has played better of late, winning two of his last three starts with a .939 save percentage in that span. The Danish netminder improves to 7-5-2 with an .894 save percentage on the season. Sogaard should see the majority of starts until Cam Talbot (lower body) is ready to return.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Pucks like beach balls in win

Sogard made 27 saves in a 7-2 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday. The 22-year-old was dialled-in, in an 'I'm seeing a beach ball' kind of way. Sogaard has struggled in March (1-5-1), but has started to cut down on goals allowed in his last two games. He gave up just two goals to each of the Bolts and Bruins, and could be poised to help the Sens continue to track down the Penguins for the last wild card spot. The team is just five points behind.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Slated to face Bruins

Sogaard will defend the road net Tuesday against Boston, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Sogaard is coming off a 25-save effort in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Toronto. He has a 5-4-2 record this season with a 3.49 GAA and an .881 save percentage in 12 appearances. Boston ranks second in the league this campaign with 3.78 goals per game. Sogaard will get the second half of Ottawa's back-to-back after Dylan Ferguson played in Monday's 2-1 win over Pittsburgh. Ferguson (illness) won't be in the lineup Tuesday, so Ottawa has recalled Kevin Mandolese from AHL Belleville to be Sogaard's backup.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Winless in four straight

Sogard made 25 saves in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday. Matt Murray was actually much busier at the other end of the ice, making 48 saves. But Sogard was solid when he needed to be. And he was especially sharp in the shootout where his size and focus helped push it to nine rounds. Sogard is now winless in his last four starts (0-3-1) and has allowed 18 goals. Keep him benched -- his kind of goals allowed could sink your squad.
