  • Caufield did not play in Tuesday's 6-2 preseason loss to Toronto. Caufield returned to practice Monday after missing a week with an upper-body injury but did not suit up Tuesday. Thursday's preseason finale at home against the Senators will be Caufield's last chance to prepare for next Wednesday's season-opener in Toronto.

  • Caufield (upper body) returned to practice Monday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports. Caufield will have two opportunities to get into a preseason game before the season-opener against the Maple Leafs on Oct. 13. The 20-year-old winger is considered a favorite for the Calder Trophy heading into the upcoming season and should be capable of challenging for the 40-50 point threshold after generating five points in 10 regular-season contests last year.

  • Caufield is dealing with an upper-body injury that will sideline him for about a week. it's certainly good news for the Habs faithful that Caufield avoided a more serious injury. The 20-year-old Wisconsin native played in just 10 regular-season contests for Montreal last year in which he recorded four goals on 30 shots and one assist while averaging 13:58 of ice time. Caufield is poised for a top-six role that includes a spot with the No. 1 power-play unit. As such, he could be in line to challenge for the 40-50 point range as a full NHLer this year.

  • Caufield (undisclosed) took warmups ahead of Sunday's intra-squad scrimmage but was pulled for precautionary reasons. As such, the rookie is considered day-to-day as training camp continues. Caufield has over two weeks to heal up before the Canadiens' regular-season opener against Toronto on Oct. 13, but hopefully the issue is minor and he can return to camp well before that.

  • Caufield recorded two assists in Monday's 3-2 overtime victory over the visiting Lightning in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Josh Anderson found twine twice, opening and closing the scoring for the home squad, and Caufield dished helpers on each. The young Wisconsin native is now up to 12 points in 19 postseason contests since being inserted into the lineup way back in Game 3 against Toronto in Round 1.
