  • Maple Leafs' Joffrey Lupul: Lands on LTIR
    By RotoWire Staff

Lupul (abdomen) failed his second physical and will begin the season on long-term injured reserve, Daren Millard of Sportsnet reports. The story remains the same for Lupul -- there is still no timetable for him to return to NHL action after he missed all of the 2015-16 campaign with his injury. It's looking more and more like his playing days are over, but even if they somehow aren't, the veteran winger won't be a fantasy asset in basically any format.

  • Lupul (abdomen) once again took to social media on Wednesday to apologize for his "inappropriate response" following his failed physical at the start of training camp, reports the Toronto Star. Lupul caused a controversy by calling out the Leafs and suggesting they were cheating by putting him on long-term injured reserve. "It was an inappropriate response, and I deleted it, but I take full responsibility," Lupul said on Twitter. "It's been extremely tough not being able to play over the past 1.5 years. I apologize to the media, fans, Leafs organization, and most of all my teammates for this unneeded distraction." Loops also said he hopes to get back on the ice some day, but he turns 34 on Saturday and will be hard-pressed to return to the NHL ever again.

  • Lupul used his verified Instagram account on Sunday to suggest he did not fail a physical as the Leafs announced late last week, reports the Toronto Star. Lupul, who failed his physical last week and remains on long-term injured reserve, removed the "Haha failed physical. They cheat, everyone lets them," post a couple hours after it first went up. Loops also posted, "I'm ready. Just waiting the call." His injury has been shrouded in mystery since it happened and many believe the Leafs simply use the long-term IR to circumvent the salary cap. As it stands, Lupul will not play for the team and even if he was cleared, his salary is so high that it is likely impossible for any other team to consider adding him in trade.

  • As anticipated, Lupul (abdomen) did not pass his physical Thursday, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports. Lupul was sidelined for the entire 2016-17 campaign due to a sports hernia and will likely remain out this year as well. The Leafs will use long-term injured reserve in order to get some cap relief, and the 33-year-old winger will almost certainly retire when his contract expires after this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Joffrey Lupul: Failed physical
    By RotoWire Staff

Lupul, who missed the entire Maple Leafs campaign with a sports hernia injury, failed a physical at the end of the season, Kristen Shilton of TSN reports. A versatile but injury-prone winger, it's been widely speculated that Lupul may have played his last game. The Buds have him under contract for one more year at $5.25 million, at which point he'd become an unrestricted free agent. If he does, in fact, hang up his skates for good, Lupul will finish with 420 points (205 goals, 215 assists) in 701 career contests split between the Ducks, Oilers, Flyers and Leafs.
