  • Green managed three power-play assists in Wednesday's 8-2 dismantling of Calgary at home. This was his fourth multi-point effort of the season, but the first since hanging two points on the lowly Coyotes in an Oct. 12 contest. Green is the only defenseman on the Wings profiling as a true power-play quarterback, which basically ensures that the veteran will continue receiving as much playing time as his 32-year-old body allows.

  • Green ranks ninth among defensemen with 14 points (one goal, 13 assists) in 18 games. Those numbers are a bit skewed by his hot start, which included eight assists through his first four games of the season, but Green remains a serviceable fantasy option who's in a contract year. He's cashing in the balance of a three-year, $18 million contract with the Red Wings, but he'd likely need to go on an absurd run to command that kind of money on his next deal regardless of where he winds up.

  • Green went plus-1 with three shots on goal and four hits in Saturday's 3-2 shootout road win over the Panthers. The veteran offense-first blueliner had some issues taking care of the puck as he committed three giveaways, but then again, he recorded a game-high 27 minutes of ice time in this latest win. Green has been a force for the Winged Wheel and his fantasy owners alike this season, tacking on one goal and 10 helpers through the first 12 games.

Green is currently tied with Alex Pietrangelo of the Blues and Philadelphia's Shayne Gostisbehere for the league lead in points by a defenseman (11). The right-shooting rearguard appears highly motivated to produce in the early going, and it's safe to say that a driving force behind the surge is the fact that he's in a contract year. Green's occupying a whopping $6 million against the salary cap, and that's a huge chunk of change for a Detroit team that recently had to swing a couple of trades just to retain restricted free agent Andreas Athanasiou. It wouldn't be surprising to see Green moved at the trade deadline, if not sooner.

  • Green scored his first goal of the season and recorded six shots during Monday's 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay. Green has three multi-point games this season with a goal and eight helpers through six games. He's posted four consecutive seasons with at least 35 points, and the veteran defenseman should be viewed as a high-floor asset and owned in most settings. The Red Wings are probably going to endure some negative regression in the win and goal columns moving forward, but Green's offensive role should keep him fantasy relevant.
