  • Hurricanes' Lee Stempniak: Headed to injured reserve
    By RotoWire Staff

Stempniak (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday. The 34-year-old just can't stay healthy and will head to injured reserve for the second time this season. Stempniak suffered the injury just a couple shifts into his first conditioning game with AHL Charlotte on Friday, and the new ailment is reportedly separate from the back issues he's been dealing with. Josh Jooris and Phillip Di Giuseppe figure to receive increased roles in his absence.

  • Hurricanes' Lee Stempniak: Suffers new injury
    By RotoWire Staff

Stempniak -- who was out on a conditioning assignment for a back ailment -- suffered an upper-body injury that is expected to sideline him long term, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports. This latest malady is a huge blow for Stempniak, who still has yet to make his 2017-18 debut. With the veteran once again unavailable, the Canes were forced to call up Phil Di Giuseppe in order to provide additional forward depth. While it has yet to officially happen, given the pessimism expressed by head coach Bill Peters, Stempniak is likely bound for another stint on injured reserve.

  • Stempniak (back) was recalled from his conditioning assignment Sunday. The 34-year-old is known best for his strong shot that notched him 16 goals last year, and he's also coming off back-to-back 40 point efforts. However, with Carolina loaded with right wingers this year (Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, and Justin Williams have all been logging consistent minutes), it's unclear what line Stempniak will be placed on.

  • Stempniak (back) exited Friday's game with AHL Charlotte after only a couple of shifts and will not return, Checkers Director of Communications' Nick Niedzielski reports. Stempniak appeared to be on track to rejoin the Hurricanes relatively soon, but the most recent news casts doubt on an impending return. An updated timeline for the winger may arise when the results of his tests surface.

  • Stempniak (back) was officially activated from injured reserve and sent to AHL Charlotte for conditioning Friday. Basically, Stempniak is healthy again, but since he's yet to make his season debut, the conditioning stint in a relatively low-pressure environment of the AHL should be the final step in his recovery. The Hurricanes currently are bottom-dwellers in the Metropolitan Division, so they'll welcome Stempniak back with open arms since he's known to be a proficient playmaker who put up 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) over a full season in 2016-17.
