  • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Grabs assist in win

Brodie picked up an assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime victory over the Penguins. Brodie set up Matthew Knies with a net-front feed early in the second period, tying the game 1-1. The 33-year-old blueliner has been uncharacteristically productive on the offensive end of late -- he now has assists in back-to-back outings and six in his last seven contests. Brodie has yet to score a goal in 74 appearances this season, though he's up to 24 assists and 152 blocked shots while averaging 21:46 of ice time.

  • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Rare point in win

Brodie delivered an assist Saturday in a 3-2 win over Montreal. It was Brodie's first point in seven games and his 17th assist in 63 appearances this season. • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Picks up two assists

Brodie logged two assists, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Coyotes. This was Brodie's second multi-point effort of the season. He set up Bobby McMann's opening tally in the first period and William Nylander's breakaway goal out of the penalty box in the third. Brodie has had to play a larger role with the Maple Leafs' defense depleted by absences, but the pressure should recede a bit with Morgan Rielly set to return from a suspension Thursday versus Vegas. Brodie has 15 helpers, 32 shots on net, 117 blocked shots and a plus-22 rating over 54 appearances, already surpassing the 14 points he posted in 2022-23.

  • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Really struggling this season

Brodie has two assists in his last four games. Brodie isn't really a fantasy guy, so the points aren't much of a help. His usual steady defensive game has been somewhat queasy this season, though, and that's a troubling trend for the Leafs. Brodie's turnover rate has jumped, and his defensive zone exit success has declined. More troubling, the Leafs have allowed 39 goals at 5-on-5 with Brodie on the ice (44 games), which is one more than they did in his 58 games last season. And he has really struggled when pressured by opposing forecheckers, coughing up the puck a lot more often and failing to get clean exits on dump-ins. None of this reflects on his fantasy line, but it does influence the lines of his goaltenders. And it could get Brodie shifted off the top pairing and away from Morgan Rielly.

  • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Rare point in win

Brodie picked up an assist Saturday in a 7-4 win over the Wild. He had two shots Saturday and finished plus-1. Brodie is a pillar on Toronto's blue line, but he's more focused on stopping pucks than scoring with them. He'll play an important stabilizing role, especially for his netminders Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll, but that doesn't show up on any stat line. Expect a 20-25 point season from Brodie.
