Sabres' Carter Hutton: Cites vision issues

Carter Hutton referred to struggles with his vision during the 2019-20 season in a recent interview, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. The goalie was actually pretty good about not making direct excuses for what was a poor season (12-14-4 record across 31 games and a career-low .898 save percentage) that included one terrible stretch of play in which he went winless from Oct. 24 through Jan. 30. But he did reference the problem -- called convergence insufficiency -- and how he was forced to work through it (and will need to continue to do so) with various eye exercises. No matter how much of an effect the condition had on Hutton's rough campaign, he's likely to enter the 2020-21 season behind Linus Ullmark in the pecking order, though the new Ralph Krueger-led coaching staff seems to prefer more of a direct timeshare. We'll also see if the team adds another goaltender to the mix following yet another missed postseason.

Sabres' Carter Hutton: Fourth straight loss

Carter Hutton made 21 saves in a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.Hutton is struggling -- it was his fourth straight loss. He's under contract for one more season, but his numbers have been less than stellar in Buffalo. Hutton probably isn't the answer there, just like he isn't the answer for your fantasy squad.

Sabres' Carter Hutton: Takes third straight loss

Carter Hutton turned aside 32 of 35 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Winnipeg. It was hard to fault Hutton on any of the goals, with all three coming in outnumbered situations. The first two were odd-man rushes while the third came on a rebound while the Buffalo Sabres were shorthanded. Hutton has lost his last three starts, allowing three goals in each one, entering Thursday's home tilt against Pittsburgh.

Sabres' Carter Hutton: Starting in Sin City

Carter Hutton will patrol the crease during Friday's road game versus the Golden Knights, John Vogl of The Athletic reports.Hutton was pretty solid in his last start Wednesday against Colorado, stopping 31 of 34 shots, but he ultimately suffered his 15th loss of the season due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. The 34-year-old netminder will need to be razor sharp in order to have a shot at getting back in the win column Friday, as he'll be entering a brutal road matchup with a sizzling-hot Vegas team that's won seven straight games.

Sabres' Carter Hutton: Stands tall against Pens

Carter Hutton stopped 41 shots in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Penguins. The Buffalo Sabres jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period despite being outshot 12-10, and while Hutton was eventually beaten by Evgeni Malkin in the second, he continued to make big saves to prevent the Pens from ever getting back into the game. The 34-year-old has now won five of his last six starts, but his 2.83 GAA and .916 save percentage over that stretch aren't exactly elite.
