Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Slated to sign extension

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has reportedly agreed to sign an eight-year, $64 million contract extension with Arizona, per Darren Dreger of TSN.The window for extending a player under contract doesn't open for Ekman-Larsson until the league year turns over; however, it is expected that the blueliner will officially put pen to paper July 1. There was some concern in the desert that the 26-year-old would turn down the offer, which would likely have led the club to consider trading him ahead of the 2018 NHL Draft. Considering the Yotes were nearly $23 million under the cap last year, they can certainly afford to give Ekman-Larsson a sizable pay raise -- especially with the cap expected to jump to $78-82 million.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Big boss wants him for long haul

Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka is committed to retaining Ekman-Larrson and the team is currently discussing a long-term contract extension for the defenseman, NHL.com reports.Chayka isn't holding back his feelings about OEL and wants to build around him. "We've been very clear that we're willing to do whatever we possibly can to have him come back, and [we] think he's a heck of a defenseman, heck of a player, heck of a person," the Coyotes boss said at the 2018 NHL Scouting Combine. Oliver Ekman-Larsson registered 14 goals and 28 assists to complement 15 power-play points last season, but it's been tough to look past his own-zone struggles based on the mobile rearguard's cumulative minus-53 rating since the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Committed to playing in World Championship

Oliver Ekman-Larsson will represent Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, which runs May 4-20 in Denmark. While the 26-year-old posted a minus-28 rating on a team chock full of less experienced players, Ekman-Larsson did nothing to dent his reputation as a premier offensive weapon from the Arizona Coyotes blue line, as he notched 14 goals and 28 assists over a full season in 2017-18. He's also a mainstay on the man advantage, having reached double-digit point totals in that spot in each of the past five seasons, so consider targeting 2009's sixth overall draft pick in the early-to-middle rounds of fantasy drafts this fall.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Scores two third-period goals

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the game-winner and an insurance marker in a 5-2 win over Calgary on Monday.Ekman-Larsson got an opportunity after the Flames had to pull Mike Smith for the extra man, and he took advantage of it with an empty-netter to go with his game-winner. They all count the same in fantasy, though, and the suddenly hot Ekman-Larsson now has five goals in March. He's closing the year strong and should be in your lineup to take advantage of this late outburst.

    Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Fined heavily

Oliver Ekman-Larsson was fined $5,000 on Saturday for slashing Sven Andrighetto.Five grand is the maximum fine allowed under the CBA, so Ekman-Larsson is having to pay a pretty penny for his transgression. However, the key here for fantasy players is that he wasn't suspended for his act. That means the Swede will be in action Sunday against the Canucks.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Finds twine versus Senators

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a goal during a 2-1 victory over the Senators on Saturday. It was nice to see Ekman-Larsson find the back of the net for the first time since mid-January, but it's probably too late for the 26-year-old to salvage his season. He still only has nine goals, which is his worst total since the 2012-13 lockout season, but even worse, Ekman-Larsson owns a league-low minus-35 rating. He's posted a negative rating four straight seasons, so that's not a surprise, but owners weren't expecting to account for that bad of a plus/minus. Combined that with fewer goals, and Ekman-Larsson is one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of 2017-18.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Collects trio of assists

Oliver Ekman-Larsson racked up three assists, including two on the power play, in Thursday's win over Montreal.Ekman-Larsson has been more engaged offensively of late and is now up to 28 points in 58 games on the season. His minus-37 rating is a disaster, but the 26-year-old is finding ways to contribute with his playmaking ability. If you can look past his plus-minus, Ekman-Larsson's strong offensive play of late indicates he's in for a strong finish.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has tallied four points (two goals, two assists) in his last six games. Before this recent stretch, Ekman-Larsson was really struggling. Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Records minus-3 versus Sharks

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a goal but also posted a minus-3 rating in a 6-5 loss to the Sharks on Saturday. The 24-year-old is absolutely killing owners with a minus-40 rating. That's historically bad and almost twice as terrible as the next worst rating in the league (three players sit at minus-21). What's worse, Ekman-Larsson isn't scoring as much as he has in the past, making him extremely hard to trust in fantasy starting lineups.

Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Records assist, six shots in loss

Oliver Ekman-Larsson registered an assist and six shots during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Florida. The helper snapped an eight-game point drought that also produced a minus-6 rating for the Swede, so this was certainly a welcomed strong showing. Ekman-Larsson is a victim of circumstance more than anything, as the Arizona Coyotes have struggled to win games and prevent goals. He's still recorded a respectable six goals, 19 points and 98 shots, but in settings that included plus-minus, his minus-25 mark is crippling.
