  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Supplies only offense in loss

Orlov scored his sixth goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Penguins. The veteran blueliner spoiled a shutout bid for Alex Nedeljkovic midway through the second period by intercepting a clearing attempt and firing a shot through traffic that hit a Pittsburgh defender before finding the back of the net. Orlov has been on a heater in recent weeks, producing three goals and eight points over the last eight games, and he needs four more points to reach 30 for the third straight season.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Four-point outburst Sunday

Orlov tallied two goals and two assists in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Senators. Orlov opened the scoring in the first period, beating Anton Forsberg on a breakaway to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. The 32-year-old blueliner added a pair of assists before scoring his second goal and fourth point in the final frame by firing a slapshot through traffic. It's just the second multi-point effort of the season for Orlov, who now has points in three straight games after logging just one assist in his prior 17 contests. He's up to five goals and 38 points through 68 games in a bottom-pairing role with the Hurricanes this season.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Reaches 20-point mark Saturday

Orlov recorded an assist for a second straight game in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Maple Leafs. Although the helper gives Orlov 20 points on the season (3G, 17A), he's still on pace to fall short of the 36 points he posted last year. Part of the problem is Orlov's ice time is down more than five minutes conpared to last season (17:03 vs. 22:33), which is not surprising as Carolina boasts one of the deepest blue lines in the NHL. Temper your expectations accordingly.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Provides helper in win

Orlov logged an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks. Orlov picked up his first point since the All-Star break by setting up Jesperi Kotkaniemi's second-period tally. The 32-year-old Orlov has been limited to 18 points through 55 outings this season after posting 36 points in 66 contests last season. He's played primarily on the third pairing in his first year with the Hurricanes, adding 73 hits, 39 blocked shots, 85 shots on net and a minus-4 rating.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Stuffs stat sheet Saturday

Orlov posted an even-strength goal on three shots, along with a pair of hits and a blocked shot in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Coyotes. It was a banner night for the Russian blueliner, who is now up to 17 points (3G, 14A) in 48 games this season. He's on pace to top 30 points for a third consecutive season. Orlov continues to skate mainly on the Canes' third defensive pairing opposite Jalen Chatfield, averaging roughly 16 minutes of ice time per night.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Helps out on power play

Orlov notched a power-play assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Canucks. Orlov has a helper in each of the last two contests. His assist Saturday was his first power-play point since Oct. 21 -- he appears to have been bumped up to the second unit over Jaccob Slavin. Orlov is up to 11 points (three on the power play), 42 shots on net, 35 hits, 23 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-8 rating through 27 games this season. While it's encouraging that he's getting time with the man advantage, his third-pairing role at even strength doesn't inspire confidence in his long-term success.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Offers assist Thursday

Orlov notched an assist, three shots on goal, three hits and two blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Flames. Orlov had a shot tipped in by Michael Bunting in the first period just after a penalty kill. The assist snapped a three-game point drought for Orlov, who has been just okay on offense in a third-pairing role for the bulk of the season. The 32-year-old defenseman has 10 points, 42 shots on net, 34 hits, 22 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-7 rating through 26 appearances. While it's not a bad pace, it's off the mark that saw him log 36 points across 66 outings between the Bruins and the Capitals in 2022-23.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Off to slow start

Orlov has just one goal and six helpers in 17 games this season. After posting a career-high 36 points in 66 games split between Washington and Boston last season, Orlov is on pace to fall short of that mark in his first year with the Hurricanes. Part of the problem is that he's skating on the Canes' third defensive pairing, and his average TOI has dipped to just 17:30 per game, a drop of roughly five minutes compared to last season. Orlov's fantasy value will likely remain limited barring an uptick in usage.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Snags helper

Orlov produced an assist in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Avalanche. Orlov saw just 15:49 of ice time over 18 shifts, though no injury was reported after the game. The 32-year-old blueliner has struggled to adjust to the Hurricanes, logging two assists and a minus-10 rating over six contests. He's added eight hits, six blocked shots and four PIM, but until his overall play improves, he'll likely be limited to the third pairing.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Gets first point with new team

Orlov posted an assist, three shots on goal, two hits and a minus-5 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Ducks. While Orlov notched his first point as a Hurricane, it was also an ugly defensive game for him and Tony DeAngelo on the third pairing. Orlov has brought his usual physicality through three contests, recording six hits and three blocked shots, but he's now at a minus-7 rating. He's seeing some power-play usage, but the Hurricanes have one of the strongest defense corps in the league, so any slip in play could see his role reduced.

  • Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Joining Carolina

Orlov signed a two-year, $15.5 million deal with the Hurricanes on Saturday, per Darren Dreger of TSN. Orlov posted a career-best 36 points (seven goals, 29 assists) in 66 games between the Capitals and Bruins. The 31-year-old defenseman should help round out Carolina's blue line, providing modest offensive upside while bringing a solid defensive presence.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Two helpers in Game 3

Orlov notched two assists Friday in a 4-2 win over the Panthers during Game 3 of the Bruins' first-round series. He had a hand in a first-period goal by Taylor Hall and a third-period tally by David Pastrnak. Orlov has a four-game point streak dating back to the final game of the regular season, and he's racked up four helpers in the postseason so far, giving him plenty of momentum heading into Game 4 on Sunday as the Bruins try to seize a 3-1 series lead.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Poised to play

Orlov (back) is slated to return to the lineup Tuesday versus the Capitals. Orlov missed Sunday's 5-3 win over the Flyers. Since being traded to the Bruins from Washington, he has earned three goals, 15 points, 41 shots on net and 48 hits in 21 games.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Day off Sunday

Orlov (rest) will sit out Sunday against the Sabres, per Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe. Orlov will get an extra day of rest Sunday, with the Bruins having already locked up a playoff spot. Jakub Zboril will fill in on the blue line. The 31-year-old Orlov has fit in nicely in Boston, logging three goals, nine assists, and a plus-12 rating in 11 games since he was traded from Washington. He's up to six goals and 31 points through 54 games this season.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Another three-point outing

Orlov scored a power-play goal and added two even-strength assists in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Sabres. The veteran blueliner wasn't expected to have a prominent offensive role for Boston when he was picked up from the Capitals last week, but Orlov has suddenly erupted for three goals and eight points in the last three games, including a goal and a helper with the man advantage. He almost certainly won't keep up this pace, especially with Charlie McAvoy handling the point on the first power-play unit, but the Bruins' attack is potent enough that even secondary pieces like Orlov might have more fantasy value than anticipated down the stretch.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Three-point effort Tuesday

Orlov scored twice on three shots, added a power-play assist, blocked four shots, logged two PIM and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flames. Orlov scored twice on similar plays in the first period, and he also set up Pavel Zacha's third-period equalizer. Through three games with the Bruins, Orlov has logged five points, six hits and five blocked shots. The 31-year-old has been a good fit in a bottom-four role, though the improvement in talent around him from what he had with the Capitals has also bolstered his offense. For the season, the blueliner has five goals, 19 helpers, 81 shots on net, 94 hits, 67 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 46 appearances.

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Gets two assists Monday

  • Bruins' Dmitry Orlov: Dealt to Boston

Orlov and Garnet Hathaway were traded from the Capitals to the Bruins on Thursday in exchange for Craig Smith, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick Orlov will likely see a smaller role with the Bruins, but his physicality and defensive play will shore up his new team's depth. The 31-year-old has produced 19 points, 88 hits, 62 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating through 43 appearances this season while averaging 22:43 of ice time per game, his highest mark since 2017-18. Per the Wild, both the Capitals and the Wild are retaining salary on Orlov, with prospect Andrei Svetlakov sent to the Capitals in the deal.

  • Capitals' Dmitry Orlov: Not playing Thursday

Orlov won't play Thursday against Anaheim because of trade-related reasons, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. Orlov is eligible for unrestricted free agency at the end of the 2022-23 campaign. He has compiled 19 points, 77 shots on goal, 62 blocks and 88 hits in 43 games this season. Alexander Alexeyev or Matt Irwin will replace Orlov in the lineup against the Ducks.

  • Capitals' Dmitry Orlov: Dishes helper Tuesday

Orlov tallied an assist while logging 23:49 of ice time during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes. Orlov has posted a goal and seven points in his last 11 games. The Capitals have leaned heavily on the 31-year-old in the absence of John Carlson (face) and should continue to do so as they battle for postseason contention.
