Belmont Stakes recap: Creator charges late to beat Destin by a nose, literally
Creator took the third leg of the Triple Crown in horse racing by a nose, edging Destin at the Belmont Stakes
The final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown ran Saturday with the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes from Elmont, New York and Creator, which was 16-1 at post time, made a late charge to edge Destin (8-1) by a nose at the wire to win.
Exaggerator was the heavy favorite and was in position to make a run up the outside as the field turned to the top of the stretch, but it was clear that the Preakness winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up didn't have enough gas in the tank for the mile-and-a-half distance and finished 14.75 lengths back in 11th place.
Instead, it was Creator that made the charge from the outside lane to pass Lani, the third-place finisher, and catch up to Destin to narrowly edge the 2 horse at the wire. The horse that closed at 16-1 and had the 13th post position was able to run the outside well and earn the win.
Here is the full order of finish for the 148th Belmont Stakes:
4. Governor Malibu
6. Brody's Cause
