2018 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Vegas picks: Fade Kyle Busch, back Eric Jones
Micah Roberts pioneered wagering on NASCAR races and just locked in his QuikTrip 500 picks
The 2018 NASCAR season rolls on Sunday with the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick are the Vegas favorites at 9/2, followed closely by Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, and Chase Elliott at 6/1.
Before you make any kind of bet on the 2018 QuikTrip 500, you need to see what Micah Roberts has to say.
As a Vegas bookmaker, Roberts was the first to offer expanded NASCAR betting. Now he hands out NASCAR winners to his followers.
In the 2017 NASCAR playoffs, Roberts picked nine of the 10 winners. That wasn't a fluke, either. In 2016, he told readers to back Denny Hamlin at 15/1 in the Daytona 500. The result: Hamlin edged Truex Jr. for the checkered flag. Roberts also nailed Hamlin at 40/1 to win at Watkins Glen later that year.
Last week, Roberts was all over Hamlin once again at the Daytona 500, saying his drafting skills would be the difference-maker. The result: Hamlin surged to a third-place finish in NASCAR's kickoff race.
Now, he has analyzed the 2018 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 from every possible angle and locked in his picks. You can see his entire projected leaderboard at SportsLine.
One huge surprise Roberts is calling for: Kyle Busch, one of the Vegas favorites, finishes outside the top five.
Busch won in Atlanta in 2008 and 2013, but didn't take the checkered flag on a 1.5-mile track last season and failed to win any of his first 20 races of 2017.
Another curveball: Eric Jones, going off at 20/1, makes a serious run at the title after finishing 14th at Atlanta last year.
"This is Jones' first non-plate race driving for Joe Gibbs," Roberts told SportsLine. "The driver he replaced, Matt Kenseth, had a second-best 11.9 average finish at Atlanta, including third-place last season. He'll be fast."
Roberts also loves a big underdog whose team has a strong history in Atlanta to make a serious run. Anyone who backs this long shot could hit it big.
So who wins the 2018 QuikTrip 500? And which long shots stun the racing world? Visit SportsLine now see the full projected leaderboard from the nation's premier NASCAR handicapper, and find out.
