2019 Risen Star Stakes odds, predictions: Expert who nailed Derby prep races reveals picks
Jody Demling also just nailed the superfecta at the Pegasus World Cup and Robert B. Lewis Stakes
The 2019 Risen Star Stakes, one of the 2019 Kentucky Derby prep races, gets underway with a post time of 7:02 p.m. ET on Saturday evening. Kingly, a horse that was going off at 12-1, has been scratched, helping open up the field for other favorites in the 2019 Risen State Stakes odds such as War of Will (5-2), Owendale (6-1) and Hog Creek Hustle (8-1). With every horse going off at 30-1 or lower odds, and 10 set at 12-1 or lower, this is a wide-open field that go a number of directions when the final race of the day gets underway at the New Orleans' Fair Grounds. Before locking in any 2019 Risen Star Stakes picks of your own, first be sure to check out the horse racing predictions for the Grade 2, $400,000 race from Jody Demling.
A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing about, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling has gotten 2019 off to an astonishing start. He nailed the superfecta at the prestigious Pegasus World Cup -- a $678 payout on a $1 bet -- and hit the superfecta at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes, too.
Demling nailed winners all through 2018 as well, starting with last year's Pegasus World Cup. Among others, he also produced big winning tickets in 2018 at the Louisiana Derby, Arkansas Derby and the Belmont Stakes, and he nailed his ninth Preakness win in the past 14 years.
Anyone who has followed him is way, way up. Now, Demling is really getting into high gear. He has evaluated Saturday's big Grade 2 stakes race at the Fair Grounds and has revealed a complete leaderboard and his exacta, trifecta and superfecta picks, available right now only at SportsLine.
We can tell you that Demling is fading Frolic More, one of five horses going off at 10-1. "Just appears to be a cut below the most talented horses in this race," Demling told SportsLine.
Frolic More has just one win in five career starts and had a disappointing fifth-place finish at Saratoga back in September. There are far better values to be had in this race.
One horse Demling is high on: Plus Que Parfait, a 10-1 long shot who finished fifth at the Lecomte Stakes.
For the Brendan Walsh-trained horse, however, the Lecomte was the only race without a top-three finish. Que Parfait also finished second at the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs in November and has eyes on the Kentucky Derby. Demling believes the horse can have a strong showing this weekend.
"He didn't have a great trip in the Lecomte, but should be coming at the end if the pace is honest," Demling added.
In addition, Demling is extremely high on a surprising double-digit long shot with the background to put it all together and be there at the end. He's including this horse in all of his exotics picks, and anyone who follows Demling's advice could hit it big once again.
