2019 Withers, Robert B. Lewis, Holy Bull Stakes odds, predictions: Expert who nailed Pegasus superfecta makes picks
Jody Demling also nailed the Derby-Oaks double at Churchill Downs nine of the last 10 years
The Kentucky Derby is the first Saturday of May, but the quest to race in the Run for the Roses picks up big time on Saturday. Three prep races offer points to the top horses that go toward qualifying for the most prestigious event in horse racing. The Withers Stakes goes to post at 4:30 p.m. ET at Aqueduct (New York), the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream (Florida) starts at 5:13 p.m. ET, and the Robert B. Lewis Stakes goes off at 5:53 p.m. ET at Santa Anita (California). All three races are loaded with Derby hopefuls. Before you lock in any 2019 Holy Bull, Withers, or Robert B. Lewis Stakes picks, you need to see what Jody Demling has to say.
A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing about, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling nailed winners all through 2018, starting with last year's Pegasus World Cup. Among others, he also produced big winning tickets in 2018 at the Louisiana Derby, Arkansas Derby and the Belmont Stakes, and he nailed his ninth Preakness win in the last 14 years. He's also won the challenging Derby-Oaks double at Churchill Downs nine of the last 10 years, meaning he's held a ticket with the winners of both races almost the entire decade.
He started off the 2019 season with a bang last week, nailing the superfecta at the Pegasus World Cup, a massive $678 payout on a $1 wager. Anyone who has followed him is way, way up -- you could be too.
Now, Demling is really getting into high gear. He has evaluated Saturday's big Kentucky Derby prep races at Aqueduct, Gulfstream and Santa Anita and released his top finishers for each race, named a horse to avoid like the plague, and locked in his exotics picks. All of it is available right now only at SportsLine.
For the 2019 Withers Stakes, we can tell you Demling is fading the favorite, Tax, who's listed at 2-1 Withers Stakes odds. In fact, the horse racing guru says Tax won't even crack the board. "He'll want to try and set the pace and will have too much company in this race to hang on," Demling told SportsLine.
For the 2019 Holy Bull Stakes, he's going big. We can tell you he's high on Epic Dreamer, a 15-1 long shot. His high Holy Bull Stakes odds make him an inviting addition to exotics bets. "I'll throw out Epic Dreamer's last race -- a sixth-place finish -- because he had a rough trip," Demling said. "A better trip and he's going to have a shot to hit the board."
To cap off the night, the Robert B. Lewis Stakes 2019 has three strong contenders, but Demling likes an 8-1 long shot to enter the fray. "Magnificent McCool is winless on dirt and it won't start against this bunch, but he'll run an honest race and has a strong shot to get into the exotics," he said. Jump on Magnificent McCool as part of your 2019 Robert B. Lewis Stakes picks.
