When the 2020 Belmont Stakes goes to post at 5:42 p.m. ET on Saturday, plenty of history will be made. It'll be the first time since 1926 that this Grade I race is run at 1 1/8 miles as opposed to the traditional length of 1 1/2. It's also the opening leg of the 2020 Triple Crown schedule, marking the first time in horse racing history that has occurred. Additionally, the Belmont Stakes 2020 will be the first time the event has been run in front of empty grandstands at Belmont Park.

Despite all the modifications due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tiz the Law is one of the 2020 Belmont Stakes horses looking to start his own run at history. The two-time Grade I race winner is the 6-5 favorite in the latest 2020 Belmont Stakes odds as he looks to hold off other promising 2020 Belmont Stakes contenders like Sole Volante (9-2), Dr Post (5-1), Tap It to Win (6-1) and Pneumatic (8-1). With one of the jewels of the Triple Crown on the line on Saturday, you need to see the horse racing predictions from Hammerin' Hank Goldberg has to say before making any 2020 Belmont Stakes picks.

The former horse racing analyst for ESPN and NBC, Goldberg became a legendary handicapper by going straight to the source. In 2004, he had dinner before the Belmont Stakes with trainer Nick Zito at a pizzeria in Queens. The dinner led Goldberg to play Zito's 36-1 monster long shot Birdstone to win and on top of his exacta, trifecta and superfecta bets. When Birdstone shocked the world, Hammer won $24,000. In the San Felipe Stakes in March, Goldberg gave out a $20 exacta that paid $180. Anybody who has followed Hammer's horse racing picks has seen huge returns.

Now Goldberg has studied the 2020 Belmont Stakes field and has released his picks, predictions and exotic bets. You can see them all over at SportsLine.

Top 2020 Belmont Stakes predictions

One surprise: Goldberg is completely fading Dr Post, even though he's one of the favorites at 5-1. In fact, Goldberg says Dr Post doesn't even hit the board. A $400,000 purchase two years ago, this son of Quality Road has two wins in three career starts. He has won both of his races since returning from an eight-plus month layoff in March, earning a solid 96 Beyer Speed Figure in his maiden win two starts ago.

But his last-out Beyer of 86 is well shy of the best in the field (97 by Tap It to Win). In addition, Dr Post will make a significant jump in class on Saturday. Goldberg doesn't rank Dr Post in his top four and won't be using him on any 2020 Belmont Stakes bets.

Another curveball: Goldberg is high on Pneumatic, who's listed at 8-1 in the Belmont Stakes 2020 odds. The Steve Asmussen-trained colt is making just his fourth career start, but he's one of the horses in the 2020 Belmont Stakes field that could easily make a run for the carnations. Goldberg is impressed by the way Pneumatic has improved in each race.

He finished first in two races at Oaklawn Park this spring before hitting the board in the more challenging Matt Winn Stakes on May 23 at Churchill Downs. Asmussen also trained 2016 Belmont Stakes winner Creator as well multiple Preakness Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic winners. With a proven trainer and coming into this race in strong form, Pneumatic is one of horses you should be all over in your 2020 Belmont Stakes bets.

How to make 2020 Belmont Stakes picks

Goldberg is also high on a double-digit long shot who "could be dangerous." Goldberg's including this horse in his exactas and superfectas, and so should you. He's sharing which horse to back only at SportsLine.
